The gesture

Sit comfortably, either cross-legged or in an armchair, with your feet firmly planted on the ground.
Gently rub your hands together to create warmth. Then place them in front of your chest, with the edges of your hands touching.
Keep your wrists together throughout. Gradually open your hands, leaving your thumbs and little fingers touching, as if a lotus flower were blossoming in your palms.
Spread your fingers as far apart as possible, while breathing deeply and gently. Hold this posture for 36 breaths, relaxing your shoulders.
